Frequently Asked Questions

1.  What is a STÅ Plan?

A STÅ Plan (pronounced Stay Plan) is the written result of a careful deliberative process that provides the homeowner with comprehensive information that answers the following common questions:

  • Can I continue to stay-at-home as I age?
  • What would it take for me to safely age-in-place?
  • What should I do to my home, and when and at what cost, for me to successfully age-in-place?

2.  How does a professionally prepared STÅ Plan compare to information contained in do-it-yourself (DIY) resources such as age-in-place books or helpful tools such as the AARP ® HomeFit Guide?

DIY resources provide a general appreciation for the breadth of things that could be done to a home to help one age-in-place, but leave it to the homeowner to figure out applicability to his/her situation. A STÅ Plan, on the other hand, helps a homeowner answer the big question of SHOULD you stay in your current home as you age, and if YES is the answer, provides:

  • A detailed comprehensive analysis with a resulting plan to continue living in that home in a safe and satisfying manner for at least the next ten years and, baring any significant changes in health and medical status, for the next 20-30 years.
  • A current assessment and ten-year forecast of the resident’s abilities to perform activities vital to independent living, including outside help with some of the activities.
  • A room-by-room functional analysis of potential challenges to identified vital personal activities, followed by actionable, mitigating projects.
  • A ten-year roadmap of mitigating projects, identifying scope, timeframe and approximate cost.
  • A 30-year forecast of routine major costs to maintain this home.
  • A 2-D floor plan of key sections of the house, identifying personal activity locations.
  • 3-D visualizations of key mitigating projects to assist with project implementation Scope and Process.

3.  How much does a STÅ Plan cost?

The initial visit is a no-cost consultation. Thereafter, cost is arrived at on a case-by-case basis, considering such factors as the size and condition of the home, the health of the homeowner, and the ability of the homeowner to accomplish specific activities of daily living. A cost estimate is prepared following the initial home visit.
